Project Overview:
Penn State University wanted to create a gathering space where students could socialize and enhance their learning process by spending time outdoors. Structureworks provided a low-maintenance aluminum structure which helped to define the courtyard and added an architectural element that was unique and visually appealing. A matching aluminum and Ipê utility screen was incorporated to conceal HVAC units from view.
Challenge:
Penn State University wanted to create an inviting area for students and staff with electrical access, defined space and an architecturally pleasing aesthetic. Structureworks addressed the following challenges:
Solution:
Structureworks worked with Vento Landscape and Construction to design a custom L shaped aluminum shade structure and utility screen with help from Canzian/Johnston & Associates helping to define the areas and provide architectural interest. We came up with a few simple solutions.
Benefits:
Students, faculty and staff now enjoy an architecturally beautiful and well defined gathering space that enhances learning with added functionality. This one of a kind modern space creates a comfortable multi-function area where the University can host donors or hold social events such as concerts. The durable finish and low-maintenance design allow for frequent use with minimal upkeep.
