Project Overview:

Overlooking the U.S. Treasury and the White House is Metropolitan Square, a 670,000 square foot office building in the heart of Washington, D.C. A recent redesign by Gensler has updated Met Square into a state of the art office building.

A fully engineered custom aluminum shade structure with motorized Shadeflex canopies offers just the right amount of shade for work or play on the newly designed rooftop terrace. Featuring a dual powder coat finish, including wood grain, the structure supplies respite from the sun for business or rooftop entertaining. The structure was off-site factory manufactured and installed on-site by Davis Construction.

Challenges:

  • Complement the updated aesthetic and design
  • Provide shade and a multifunctional destination
  • Minimal maintenance and repairs
  • Extend architectural interest to the rooftop location

Solutions:

  • Manufactured & finished to match the building exterior
  • Integrated canopies offer all day and evening use
  • Aluminum design gives strength and durability
  • Facade integration extends the building upward
